President, PM, Sonia greet the nation on Onam

President Abdul Kalam and the Prime Minister greets the people, particularly keralites, on the occasion of Onam.

President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday greeted the people of the country, particularly Keralites, on the occasion of Onam.

"Onam brings peace, happiness and prosperity among our people and inspires us to work for further development of our country," President Kalam said in his message.

Observing that Onam reaffirms the secular traditions of people of Kerala, the Prime Minister said the "festival is an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of unity and brotherhood that underpins our national fabric".

In her message, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said the harvest festival "unites everyone regardless of their religion, symbolises the cultural, spiritual and artistic traditions of Kerala".
