A probe has been ordered into the death of a leopard which was caught in a wire mesh at village Birkhiria under Raisen forest division.
A probe has been ordered into the death of a leopard which was caught in a wire mesh at village Birkhiria under Raisen forest division, near here, a senior forest official said today.
The female leopard died yesterday after being rescued by forest officials from the wire mesh, which seems to be a trap laid by unidentified persons, presumably for another animal, Chief Conservator of Forests R N Saxena told PTI here.
The wild cat, which remained suspended in the mesh for over 12 hours, was rescued by a team of officials led by Van Vihar Director L K Choudhary, he said adding they tried to save the animal, but it died during treatment.
An autopsy revealed that the death was caused due to accumulation of fluid in lungs and collection of blood in brain, Saxena said adding, there seems to be a foul play and a probe has been launched into the incident.
