SEVERAL PROGRAMMES would be organised all over the State under the national ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyaan’ to create awareness about preventing female foeticide.
This was decided today at a meeting of the State Advisory Committee formed to review the implementation of the pre-natal diagnostic test act. State Women commission chairman Relam Chauhan chaired the meeting.
Director Public Health and Family Welfare Dr Yogiraj Sharma gave detailed information about the various institutions registered under the act and other activities being undertaken to implement it effectively.
Shedding light on the activities being undertaken under the ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyaan’, Dr Sharma said that one page each of departmental calendars for 2005 and 2006 had been dedicated to the theme. Health-related information was being disseminated through All India Radio’s (AIR) ‘Swasthya Darpan’ programme, while several fairs and programmes were organised at district and village-level to create awareness about ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyaan’.
The meting also deliberated on initiating a scheme for felicitating the parents of all those girls that had brought laurels to the State in various fields besides honouring meritorious girls.
Health Department Joint Director Dr B N Chauhan, GMC Pathology HoD Dr B K Bhardwaj, GMC paediatrics HoD Dr Rashmi Dwivedi and others were present at the meeting.
