"The protesters pelted stones on police and paramilitary forces at half a dozen places in the old town, 55 kms from Srinagar, triggering clashes," the sources said.

Police and paramilitary forces fired dozens of teargas shells and used batons to chase away the protesters, they said adding no one was hurt in the clashes.

Manzoor Ahmad Kumar and Tanvir Sheikh were killed and seven others injured in firing by security forces after an anti-election protest turned violent on Saturday.

Patrolling has been further intensified in the violence-affected areas.
