Pune woman succumbs to swine flu, city toll 24

The city recorded its 24th H1N1 casualty on Wednesday when a 35-year-old woman died at the Sassoon Hospital in Pune, said a health official.

The city recorded its 24th H1N1 casualty on Wednesday when a 35-year-old woman died at the Sassoon Hospital in Pune, said a health official.

The victim, a local resident, Shabana Quadir Shaikh, 35, had been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition four days ago, the official from the State Swine Flu Control Room said.

With this, the death toll in the city due to swine flu has touched 24. The test report of one more death is awaited.

Presently, there are 109 H1N1 positive cases undergoing treatment in various city hospitals, the official added. Pune has recorded the highest number of casualties and swine flu afflicted patients in the state.

The influenza has infected more than 3,000 people in the country. With the death of Shaikh in Pune, the overall death toll has gone up to 67.
