The project, approved by NABARD at an outlay of Rs 15 crore, has been provided in the annual plan 2013-14, for upgradation of veterinary hospitals.

The department has a well-knit network of 1,367 veterinary hospitals out of which 585 have been transferred to Zila Parishads, an official spokesman said here on Thursday.

Presently, the buildings of many of these hospitals are in a dilapidated condition and few of them are on the verge of collapse, he said.

Construction of new buildings of 19 veterinary hospitals have been completed while those of 14 tehsil level and 34 block level veterinary hospitals are under construction, he said.

Seromonitoring and diagnosis services are also being given at the hospitals for saving animals from many infectious diseases, the spokesman said.
