Purvanchal has scope for farming of herbal plants, fruits

“The government would extend all necessary training and resources to interested farmers for this purpose in the region under the National Horticulture Mission. The government has prepared a proposal of Rs 100 crore to be forwarded to the Union government to accelerate the pace of mission in the state for the year 2006-2007,” she said.
While reviewing the pace of Mission in six districts of Purvanchal, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Ballia, Allahabad and Kaushmbi, she stressed the need for chalking out a strategy for development and marketing of horticulture products by farmers. The farmers should be also kept aware of certified planting materials to ensure healthy and profitable farming.
Talking to media persons in the Circuit House on Tuesday evening, she talked about the mission of the Union government going on in 26 districts of the state.
She said the State government had got funds of Rs 53 crore for the purpose in November out of which, Rs 6. 8 crore had been spent in all the districts.
The department had trained 200 farmes in each of 26 districts under the mission to keep them aware of the latest technology in farming .
She added, the department might also take farmers of any district to some other district where impressive farming of horticulture was taking place. The government would bear the travelling expenses of farmers.
In response to a query over lack of trained staff in the horticulture department, she said services of horticulture experts on contractual basis may be taken by the department to train farmers for three to six months.
