The quake was measured 5.8 on Richter scale. Officials from the District Collector’s office said no casualties or major damage were reported till late in the evening.
The western Maharashtra region experienced three quakes since noon on Saturday. First tremor was felt at 2.11 pm measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale while second was experienced at 5.21 am with 5.8 on the Richter scale. It was followed by another quake at 5.46 pm of a magnitude of 3.8. According to sources, the epicentre of the quake in the evening was eight km south of the Koyna dam and eight km under the ground.
In Satara, Sangli and parts of Pune, windowpanes were shattered with several citizens coming on streets out of fear.
Satara district collector Vikas Deshmukh said that government machinery has rushed to Patan taluka to assess the damage because of the quake. Unconfirmed reports said some houses in Patan had cracks.
