Amid speculation that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi has extended his leave, the Congress on Tuesday said he would be back soon. The party also maintained that Rahul is deeply involved in decision making, including some recent changes, irrespective of wherever he is.
“Everything is going on under his lens, under his supervision... Rahul is discharging his responsibilities,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, rejecting contentions expressed in media reports that Rahul was not willing to come back to take up party assignments till senior leaders were shown the door.
“He will be back soon in very near future, may be next week,” Singhvi said, adding that some people may have “wishful thinking” about Rahul not coming back till this month end or year end.
When reminded that his party colleague Randeep Singh Surjewala had earlier stated that Rahul had gone on a two-week leave, which meant that he should have been back by now, Singhvi said, “Nobody has given any exact date”.
