AS PART of its efforts to ensure safe journey of railway passengers and to keep eagles watch on the suspicious elements, the railway authorities have introduced a ‘Coolie Mitra Yojna’ here at Cantonment Railway Station.

Under this scheme, the coolies have been advised to inform cops of Government Railway Police (GRP) in case they spotted suspicious looking persons or luggage on the Cantonment Railway Station premises. Besides, the railway authorities have also decided to ensure single entry and exit points.

These decisions were taken in a meeting of senior railway officials at railway station on Friday. It was also decided in the meeting that special security arrangements would be made on the station premises on important occasions and festivals. A proposal has already been submitted to concerned department for the arrangement of dog squads and a metal detector at Cantonment railway station. According to ADRM Anil Kumar, RPF Commandant interacted with 250 coolies at Varanasi railway station on Friday.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) RK Gupta chaired the meet whereas Security Commissioner AN Mitra, Assistant Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Anil Kumar, Station Manager RD Dubey and Divisional Commercial Manager Amod Gupta were among other prominent officials present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, as per directives of the Railway Board, the security of Cantonment railway station has been enhanced. This step has been taken to avoid any eventuality.

As part of the enhanced security, the Railway Police Force has set up a checkpoint to frisk the commuters on their entrance. A temporary barricading arrangement has been ensured to check the entrance of commuters through other way. The security personnel are also keeping a tight vigil on the exit point of station and also checking the entrance of passengers through the exit points.

Female RPF personnel have also been deployed.
