Railways stop serving chicken dishes

The Indian Railways have decided to ban serving of chicken dishes and eggs in any form from any Railway catering units until further orders.

The Indian Railways have decided to ban serving of chicken dishes and eggs in any form from any Railway catering units until further orders.

Instructions to this effect have already been issued to all Zonal Railways and to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC). The decision was taken in public interest, an official release said on Tuesday.

Bird flu is a highly contagious and the infection occurs through contact with poultry (chickens and eggs). The chance of infection among the catering staff members handling raw meat and eggs, and the passengers in the present circumstances is very high, it said.

A close watch is being kept on the progress of the disease in other parts of the country and further orders will be followed depending upon the progress of the disease, it said.
