Revenue minister Mahender Pratap Singh was the chief guest. Thousands of schoolchildren were also present. The rain could not deter their spirit from performing various cultural programmes.

"We had brought raincoats to protect ourselves from the rain. But luckily it was only drizzling and we enjoyed it," said Kavita Sharma of Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, who was participating in the event for the first time.

Cultural programmes were presented by the students, in which Lord Jesus Public School bagged the first position, while Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School ranked second.

Apart from presenting trophies to the students, the minister also felicitated 101-year-old Phool Kali, widow of freedom fighter Udey Singh Kilhor, and other freedom fighters.

He also gave commendation certificates to 32 officials, students and players of the district for their exemplary performance. Earlier, the minister laid a wreath at a war memorial here.
