The low attendance at the programme however didn’t discourage the young artistes and they gave a spellbinding performance before a meager audience present at the cultural auditorium. The evening began with the presentation of an item called ‘Kaise Mil Paye’ (‘bada khayal’) in raag Madhuwanti by young classical singer Awdesh Pratap Singh from Bina.

His next two recitals encompassed notes in ‘chota khayal’ (Akhiyan niharat hari) and bhajan format (Hey Ram chale aaoo) respectively. Tomar’s soulful voice was aptly backed up the splendid score given by his team of artists that included his father and guru Ram Singh Tomar (harmonium), Rahul Swarnkar (tabla) and Arpit Tiwari and Kirti soni (tanpura).

The second presentation came in from Jabalpur’s Ravishankar Bhatt. This upcoming tabla player started off with ‘tritaal’ and rendered an item called ‘Peshkari’ from the ‘purab gharana’.

This was followed by some striking annotations from the Ajirana Gharana. Bhatt also played some wonderful strokes from the Benaras Gharana, which has won worldwide acclaim due to Gudai Maharaj’s creative inputs into the tabla recitals. Pandit Devendra Bhatt accompanied Bhatt on the harmonium.

Kathak exponent Monu Sharma’s dance added some colour to the evening. Monu Sharma, who hails from Ujjain, set a pious mood by staging an item in ‘Chautal’ with the intonation of Lord Ganesha in her performance.

Monu displayed the beauty of the spring season in ‘Vasant taal’ and demonstrated extraordinary brilliance in story telling by way of her delightful body movements. The dance pieces in ‘Dal Badal’ , ‘Paran’, ‘Ladiya’ ‘Tihaaian’ ‘Uthan’, ‘Durga’ and ‘Thhat’ invited great appreciation from the audience.

The function came to an end with Aatish Nema’s folk dance presentation called ‘Dheemariya’ usually performed at the Kajri
Utsav.

The ‘raas leelas’ of the cosmic flutist Krishna were beautifully exhibited through this tribal group dance. A traditional dance form practiced by Ahir Samaj called ‘Baredi’ also captured some attention from the viewers.

Earlier, Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, congratulated the young artistes for their exhilarating performances while offering them every possible support for their promotion.

Programme officer Atul read out the opening speech and greeted the guests. He expressed his gratitude towards the cultural department for having encouraged the effort made by the Uttar Madhya Kshetra Sanskritik Kendra.
