Rajasthan beat Orissa to enter Elite group

Rajasthan beat Orissa in the Ranji Trophy Plate group semifinal to be elevated to the Elite Group.

Rajasthan scored a huge nine-wicket win over Orissa in the Ranji Trophy Plate group cricket semifinal to be elevated to the Elite Group of the championship here on Friday.

Medium pace bowler Pankaj Singh took an impressive six for 65 as Orissa's second innings folded up for 220 after they resumed at the overnight score of 91 for 5.

The hosts completed the formalities by making the required 65 runs for loss of one wicket to storm into the finals after a gap of three years.

However, Orissa were able to avoid an innings defeat with RR Parida striking a solid 67 and skipper Debashish Mohanty making a resolute 45.

Orissa, after being bowled out for 94, conceded a 156-run first innings lead to Rajasthan.

Pankaj's match figures were 10 for 111 while left-arm spinner Md Aslam grabbed 3 for 43.

In Rajasthan's second innings, Mithun Birala (41) and Naresh Gehlot (11) saw the team through to the finals.

The victory also fetched Rajasthan players an incentive of Rs one lakh each as announced by President of Rajasthan Cricket Association Lalit Modi.
