Rajasthan makes water harvesting mandatory

Those who fail to comply with the new bylaws, their water supply would be disconnected.

To tackle the acute water crisis, the Rajasthan government will soon amend its building bylaws and make it mandatory the installation of rainwater harvesting system in every house in the state.

Those who fail to comply with the new bylaws, their water supply would be disconnected, an Urban Development Housing Department official said.

The official said that now all houses and buildings would come under the purview of the building bylaws and have to install the rainwater harvesting system.

Urban Development Minister Pratap Singh Singhvi said that it would be mandatory for any house constructed on a plot of 500 sq meter to install rainwater harvesting system or face disconnection of their water supply.
