Vajpayee's praise of Singh in his concluding remarks at the party's National Executive has come at a time when the process of organisational elections in the party are underway and is scheduled to be completed in November.
His remarks appeared to be a clear message to the second-rung leaders in the party that they would have to wait for sometime for the leadership.
Another senior party leader Arun Jaitley said the party was unitedly behind Singh, who was elected party president at the National Council in Mumbai in December last year succeeding LK Advani.
