As soon as the Rajya Sabha met at 11:20am after the first adjournment, Leader of Opposition in the upper house, Ghulam Nabi Azad along with other opposition members including Naresh Aggarwal of the Samajwadi Party demanded a debate on the issue.

"If there are allegations that a cabinet minister's phone is being tapped, then it's a serious matter and needs to be discussed," Azad said.

Azad also took on home minister Rajnath Singh who had earlier denied the bugging allegations and said that the some news channels had shown that the home minister's phone was being tapped too.

Parliamentary affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu accused the opposition of 'politicising' the issue.

"There is no truth in these allegations," he said as the opposition members, dissatisfied with the minister's reply, kept pressing for a debate on the matter.

Amid the din, chairman M Hamid Ansari adjourned the house till noon.
