The meeting took place at state Congress office `Tilak Bhawan' in central Mumbai, an associate of Rane told PTI.
However, the details of the meeting were not known.
Rane had recently met senior Congress leader A K Antony, in charge of Maharashtra affairs, in Delhi to explain his position and later told newsmen that he wanted to stay in the Congress.
