On Wednesday, the DDCA’s executive working committee sacked the entire six-member Ranji selection committee for succumbing to pressure from goons to pick Navdeep Tomar for the next two Ranji one-day games.

Tomar, who had been harassing the selectors and the team management with threats, had been selected unanimously on Tuesday, despite DDCA president Arun Jaitley’s instructions against selecting any undeserving player.

HT has been reporting about such pressure, including from Tomar, the entire season.

Jaitley had asked the selectors to report to him about any pressure on them and had assured them action. But the selectors did not do so.

Tomar’s selection — there was every possibility that coach Madan Lal would have played him too — was a new low for the DDCA. Jaitley also sacked assistant coach M.S. Jaggi for being a “stooge” for power factions. Madan Lal was spared because he is a former India star.

An interim selection panel comprising Chetan Chauhan (chairman), Surinder Khanna and Vinay Lamba has taken charge. And Tomar is out of the squad.
