'Rao among Cong greats'

Former PM PV Narasimha Rao found a pride of place at an election rally addressed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Nellore in Andhra.

Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, who is keeping himself away from active politics, found a pride of place at an election rally addressed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in coastal Andhra town of Nellore on Wednesday.

Gandhi's brief 15-minute address at a public meeting in the town sent out a significant political message when she sought to put Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao on the same footing.

"If you vote Congress to power, I can assure you the welfare programmes that were the hallmarks of the governments of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indiramma, Rajivji and P V Narasimha Rao will be revived and the country will be put back on the path of progress," she said.
