Raped, student commits suicide in Chennai

Faced with a choice of having her nude MMS posted on the internet and perpetually making herself available for sex to her cousin, a 22-year-old engineering student committed suicide in Chengam, 180km from Chennai, on Monday.

In her suicide note, she accused her cousin and his friends of rape.

E Ezhilarasan, also a college student, had apparently filmed his cousin while she was taking a bath. Later, intimidating her with threats to circulate the clip, he and his friends allegedly took advantage of her, said a police officer.

The three have been arrested on charges of rape, abetment to suicide, different sections of IT Act and Tamil Nadu Harassment of Women Act.
