Rebels kill former Sukma sarpanch

The Maoists killed a former Erraobore sarpanch Soyam Mukka, a prominent leader of controversial anti-Maoist peace campaign Salwa Judum, in Sukma district.

The Maoists killed a former Erraobore sarpanch Soyam Mukka, a prominent leader of controversial anti-Maoist peace campaign Salwa Judum, in Sukma district about 450 km south of Raipur on Wednesday. Salwa Judum was disbanded following the orders by the Supreme Court in July 2011.

According to Sukma police, Mukka, on Maoist target, was provided with security guards. “But today he moved out on his motor-cycle without his guards and was hacked to death at the National Highway-30”, the police said.
