District Youth Congress Committee president Mukund Tiwari led the residents during the blockade.
Addressing the residents, Tiwari accused the authorities of carrying out the demolition drive without any prior notice and arresting the residents under fake criminal cases.
He criticised the district administration for sending to jail innocent residents including former president of Ishwar Sharan Degree College student union Akhilesh Shukla. He demanded immediate release of the arrested residents and withdrawal of fake cases filed against them.
He also demanded action against the authorities and employees who conducted the demolition drive in these localities.
PCC member Parvez Akhtar Ansari accused Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav of harassing the residents of the areas represented in the State Assembly by the opposition parties. He said the residents were deprived of basic facilities like water and electricity and exploited by the mafiosi.
He further alleged that corruption had taken precedence in government offices and Samajwadi Party leaders were taking advantage of the situation and committing crime without any fear. Ansari said the administration had been adopting dictatorial attitude towards the residents and depriving them of their fundamental rights.
The chakka-jam was cleared after additional city magistrate (ACM) I Mahendra Prasad accepted their memorandum and assured the residents against any further arrests and harassment. Those present on the occasion included Hardev Singh, Amarnath, Rajesh Mishra, Sunita Bhartiya, Sadan Lal, Subhash Tiwari, Nankau Tiwari, Ramendra, Munna Mishra, Anupam, Bhaiyyan Shukla, Rakesh Pandey and many local residents.
