THE NAGAR Nigam pensioners are a harried lot as they have not been getting pension for at least 12 months. Similarly, the employees have also not been paid salary for the last two months.
Notably, several plans are on the anvil to change the picture of NN on the pattern of Hyderabad and Vijayawada but authorities keep mum over the delay in disbursement of salary and pension. Interestingly, on the other side the contractors have been paid a sum of Rs 1.33 crore on April 14 night from the chief engineer's office. Sources said that payment to contractors was made throughout the night.
About 2400 pensioners are running from pillar to post to get their pension but to no avail. They met administrator Amrit Abhijat, who is also the district magistrate, demanding the pension. He assured them of making arrangements for payment of at least two months' salary. But they don't know about payment of their remaining pension. No official is ready to give a clear-cut reply.
The Allahabad Nagar Nigam Pensioners' Association held a meeting and condemned the NN administration for ignoring their demands. President of the association AB Singh came down heavily against the administrator and municipal commissioner, who had promised to pay at least six months' pension but failed to keep their words. A resolution was passed by the retired staff demanding immediate payment of 13 months' pension so that they can undergo medical treatment.
DN Vidyarthi, Habib Ansari, Mohammed Iqbal, Bhola Nath and other pensioner drew the attention of the DM to solve their problem at the earliest.
