Yadav was allegedly involved in the "illegal" release of his brother, who was a party candidate for the Jamui assembly seat.

Yadav, also a former central minister, was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after he gave himself up before a Jamui court.

The court turned down his plea to grant him bail and also disregarded his petition that he be sent to a hospital as he was unwell.

His brother Vijay Prakash had been arrested in October 18 last year after he was allegedly found with a weapon as well as a large quantity of liquor and cash.

Yadav had then "illegally" secured his release from police custody.

Two weeks ago, the Patna High Court had rejected Yadav's anticipatory bail petition.

Yadav was forced to resign as Union Minister of State for Water Resources last month.
