MORE THAN a dozen robberies in the last fortnight stunned the citizens and police alike. The spate of robberies also exposed lack of proper patrolling in New Bhopal. The targets remained the same as gold chains were snatched from women walking alone in the evening and the scooter/motorcycle-borne persons being robbed of cell phones and cash.

Expensive cell phone handsets were especially targeted. There were eleven loots in nine days. That was enough to shake confidence of the residents in the law-enforcers. Fear gripped the residents who have started feeling unsafe while going out in the night. The police caught some snatchers but that did not stop such incidents that mostly occurred in

New Bhopal. CD and CID
After days of dithering the case of blackmail was finally registered on the complaint of BJP leader Sanjay Joshi at the CID wing of the Madhya Pradesh police. The general perception is that handing over a case to the investigative agency is nothing but placing the matter in cold storage.

For almost a week officials at the PHQ kept silence over the matter and after a techno-savvy officer conducted an inquiry, it was decided to register the case. Officials in the Bhopal range are wondering what was so different in this case that an officer of other range was given the task to inquire and no officer in the entire Bhopal range was found fit to handle the case.

After all, there was nothing to prove about the CD in this stage because that’s the job of forensic lab. Even the case was registered at the CID’s police station.

‘Divine trick’
A STATION House Officer (SHO) posted in Bhopal has a unique style of exacting truth from his subordinates. One of his junior officers allegedly ‘made some money’ in a case and was not ready to confess. The SHO called him and put the tiny image of his deity in his palm asking the cop to speak the truth. The subordinate confessed his guilt. The official is known to have tested the trick many times and succeeded.
