Arman Ali and Pervinder were produced before a Magistrate who sent them to 14-day judicial custody.

Both were arrested following a complaint filed by Varanasi-based trader Siddhu Yadav who was injured in the alleged assault by the three policemen.

In his complaint, Yadav alleged three police constables thrashed him and drove their jeep over him after he refused to pay them a bribe of Rs 100.

Sidhu's brother, who rushed here from Banaras, met SSP Raghubir Lal who ordered registration of a case against the three police constables.

One more constable involved in the incident was on the run and would be arrested soon, the SSP said adding Siddhu Yadav was driving a truck when he was stopped by the three policemen.

Yadav is recuperating in a city hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.
