The project, to be completed by December 2008, is expected to make four major crossings signal-free, reports HT Correspondent.india Updated: Dec 15, 2006 02:52 IST
The first phase of the Rs 124 crore project to construct four underpasses and flyovers was inaugurated at the Sector 32 city centre on Thursday.
The project, to be completed by December 2008, is expected to make four major crossings signal-free. Three of them are on the Metro’s route, while the last is at the Noida Entrance 14A.T. crossing.
Three under-construction flyovers are also expected to be completed by mid-2008.
Sanjiv Saran, Chief Executive Officer, Noida Authority, said Noida had witnessed sharp rise in vehicle movement resulting in traffic snarls at peak hours. The authority had engaged RITES to study the traffic pattern and suggest improvements. Following the RITES recommendations, it had decided to make six main roads signal-free.
These roads included the DSC Road, Express Highway, Master Plan Road No.1, M.P.Road No. 3 and Road No. 6 (NH 24 to Sector 72).
RITES has proposed 22 flyovers for Noida. Four of them would be undertaken in the first phase. A six-lane trumpet type two-way flyover is being planned near Sector 14.
Two flyovers are under construction at Film City and Amity Crossing. The stretch from Delhi’s Mayur Vihar till Greater Noida would become signal-free. The underpasses and flyovers would make Metro Rail track from Indian Oil Crossing till Golf Course hassle-free.
