Rs 3.22 cr hawala money seized in last two decades

Police and security forces have seized hawala money worth Rs 3.22 crores in Indian currency and 41.2 lakh in Pakistan currency during last two decades of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, a top police officer said.

Police and security forces have seized hawala money worth Rs 3.22 crores in Indian currency and 41.2 lakh in Pakistan currency during last two decades of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, a top police officer said.

“We have seized Rs 3.22 crores of Indian currency, 41.2 lakh Pakistan currency and 2.5 lakh other currencies during last two decades of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir,” he told PTI.

In 2008, 19 lakh Indian currency, 29 thousand Pakistan currency and 10 thousand other currencies were recovered in Jammu and Kashmir as hawala money, he said.

The money was being used to finance the terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

The money was piped to various commanders and ultras of Jeish-e-Mohmmad, Lashker-e-Tioba, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Al-Jehad, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, JKLF, Al-Jehad, Al-Baraq, Muslim Mujahideen, Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami and others through hawala channels during the period.

Besides, fake currency of worth Rs 35 lakh in denomination of hundred, five hundred and one thousand notes were also recovered during the period, he said.
