Rs 30 crore for production of high genetic merit bulls

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has sanctioned a sum of about Rs 30 crore for the production of high genetic merit bulls in Haryana.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has sanctioned a sum of about Rs 30 crore for the production of high genetic merit bulls in Haryana.

Santosh Sharma, chairman of Haryana Livestock Development Board, said in a release on Wednesday that two projects - production of high genetic merit Hariana bulls through pedigree selection of over Rs 5 crore and production of high genetic merit Murrah bulls through progeny testing programme of Rs 24.72 crore - had been sanctioned for the purpose.

She said that the state was credited with having world's best breed of buffalo that is Murrah and one of the best breeds of cows namely Hariana. She said that Haryana was the first state to provide economic security to the farmers for rearing of milch animals. The milch animals in Haryana were being provided insurance cover under various schemes funded by the union and state governments, she added.
