SAI Bhopal today created history by winning the All India SAI Inter Regional Basketball Championship in both junior and senior categories. For Bhopal, the occasion called for double celebration as home team players clinched the title before the home crowd.

However, the first quarter proved quite challenging. When the quarter ended the scoreboard was reading 19-18 in Kolkata’s favour. The second quarter witnessed some fast game by the Bhopal team. Mohnish, who failed to impress in the first quarter, accelerated his moves and collected maximum points through three points shots. Kolkata also responded well and never missed an opportunity.

The intensity in the second quarter could be gauged from the fact that at the end of the quarter score was 47-43 in the favour of Bhopal. After two quarters, Bhopal team realised that the strategy they adopted in the first part of the game needed to be changed.

Opting for the strategy of court press defense, Bhopal managed to take lead in the third quarter as the score was reading 74-60. Maintaining the lead, Bhopal played brilliant game in the final quarter and won the championship. Bhopal won final 94-79. Mohnish and Shravan scored 21 and 37 points respectively for the winning side.

Following the seniors, Bhopal juniors also played excellent game. In the final match, Bhopal defeated Gandhi Nagar 78-58. Bhopal team’s skipper Nitin Shakya scored highest 26 points. SAI regional director AK Sharma and MP Council of Sports vice-chairman Om Yadav distributed prizes to the winning teams.
