Prof Singh was addressing the inaugural function of a seminar as part of Sajjad Zahir Centennial celebration at Integrated Rural Development Project (IRDP) in BHU here on Monday. Sajjad Zahir Centennial Celebration Committee and IRDP had jointly organised the seminar.
Prof. Singh said that the need of the hour was to learn a lesson from the life and deeds of Sajjad Zahir to counter the challenges being faced by the country at present. He said that Sajjad Zahir played an important role in bringing the progressive writers on a single platform for the cause of national freedom.
“Today, we remember Sajjad Zahir as general secretary of Progressive Writers Association and forget that he was also a great leader of the freedom movement”, he said, adding that the role of Sajjad Zahir in India’s freedom struggle was unmatched. He said that Zahir also guided the writers of Pakistan and Bangladesh struggling for the common man.
Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof. PN Pandey presided over the function.
Shakir Banarasi delivered the welcome address and Dr. Sri Prakash Shukla conducted the programme. Project Officer of IRDP Dr. Shailendra Singh proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Qamar Jehan, Prof. Kashinath Singh, Dr Kunwar Ji Agrwal and Dr. Sanjay Srivastava were other prominent dignitaries present.
