Samajwadi Party lawmaker Chandra Bhadra Singh and his seven supporters have been booked for extorting money from traders in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, the police said on Thursday.

Singh is legislator from Isauli in Sultapur district, about 140 km from here.

"He and his supporters forcibly took money from the traders of Dhanpatganj market in Sultanpur," Pankaj Singh, a police officer, told IANS.

The police said that several criminal cases, including those related to attempt to murder and extortion, are pending against the lawmaker in Sultanpur.
