Sangma, now facing the electorate under a different banner following the merger of his faction of NCP with Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, went to the west Garo hills deputy commissioner's office at Tura to file his papers.

Sangma, who was the MP from Tura in the dissolved House, has been representing the constituency since 70s except for a brief period.
