Dutt, who was brought to the jail in Pune from Mumbai on Thursday night, was given a jail uniform and put in a cell in a high security zone, official sources said.
He participated in collective prayers held in the prison this morning, they said.
Reacting to reports that Dutt had asked to be shifted to a cell with other prisoners, Inspector General (prisons) Satish Mathur told PTI: "I have no idea about this. He is just one of hundreds of convicts in the jail and these are routine prison administration matters."
No official confirmation of Dutt's application to be shifted to another cell was available in Pune.
The 48-year-old actor, according to sources, has been put in an egg-shaped cell that is meant for high-security prisoners.
