'Sarojini Naidu', the newly formed women's squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) was formally assigned the job on Wednesday. The on-duty squad boarded train number 2311 Kalka Mail on its arrival at Allahabad Junction station this morning.
Later the train was flagged off by Member Personnel of Railway Board, RS Varshney.
Earlier talking to media persons at the Junction station, Varshney said that "the moving women's squad of RPF has been formed to tackle crimes being committed by women on board the trains as well as at railway stations and yards, besides coming to the aid of women passengers in distress".
The squad consisted of two inspectors--one each from RPF and commercial wing of railways, two sub-inspectors, 10 lady RPF constables and 10 lady TTEs.
The 'Sarojini Naidu' squad has been made active in the Allahabad division while a squad named 'Lakshmi Bai' will be deployed in Jhansi division and another squad 'Noor Jahan' in Agra division of NCR. Earlier, Varshney dwelt on various improved services being provided to the railway passengers.
Varshney said that better services are being provided to the passengers including introduction of automatic upgradation system and provision of internet booking facility.
Besides this, efforts are also being made to provide better facilities to the railway employees, he said, adding that a corporate welfare plan is being formulated for the purpose.
On being inquired about the steps being taken by the Railways to control rampant incidents of crime in moving trains and provision of security to the passengers, Varshney claimed that the RPF has managed to check minor crimes to a considerable extent.
