Sarukkai scintillates

INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED and Padma Shree awardee Bharatnatyam dancer Malavika Sarukkai staged Bharatnatyam at Delhi Public School in Varanasi on Tuesday. Malavika?s most remarkable achievement is her ability to follow the rules of Bharatnatyam, yet make non-specialist viewers appreciate her performance by making every moment seem personal and spontaneous.

The auditorium was packed to its capacity when Malavika walked in. She gave a scintillating lecture-based dance performance. She differentiated between the pure classical style and Bollywood style of dancing. She demonstrated the gesture ‘God is One’, ‘God is Omnipotent’ and ‘Vandematram’ through her flawless style of dancing.

A team of four members, including KS Balkrishnam, Murli Parth Sarthi, MS Sukhi and Vijay Venkateshwar, accompanied her. Seema Rajgarhia proposed vote of thanks.

It is to be noted that a film ‘Samarpanam’ especially commissioned by the Government of India, has been made on Sarukkai’s life and works.
