Sarwan is Player of the Tournament

Ramnaresh Sarwan has been named the Player of the Tournament for his consistent performance in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Despite failing to make much of an impression in today's final against England here, West Indies vice captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has been named the Player of the Tournament for his consistent performance in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Sarwan, 24, picked up a total of six points in the race to finish ahead of Australian pace bowler Michael Kasprowicz (five points) and England top order batsman Marcus Trescothick (four points).

The right handed batsman claimed man of the match awards in two of his three games, playing a critical role in each to help steer his team into the finals.

In the pool match against South Africa at the Oval, Sarwan scored a brilliant 75 from 99 balls. He then followed up in the semi-final against Pakistan with an unbeaten 56 at the Rose Bowl to help his side set up a title clash against England.

The match referee at each of the 12 group matches and the two semi-final games allocated votes on 3-2-1 basis, with man of the match receiving three votes.
