An application had been filed in the Supreme Court seeking quashing of the permission given by MCD, for holding the match on the ground that the unfinished stadium was structurally not safe and could result in a catastrophe.

The MCD and the DDCA alongwith the Union Government stated before the Court that only a partial occupancy permission was granted allowing entry of 30,000 spectators as agaiant an estimated capacity of 60,000.

MCD stated that "our engineers have examined the minutest details about the safety proof of the structure and are sure that it was safe for holding the match."

"We stand responsible to the Court and to the country for the safety of the stadium."

After hearing the civic body and perusing the documents submitted by DDCA on the structural aspect of the stadium, the Court refused to grant any interim relief to the petitioner.
