Schools may go for double shifts

If the Centre gives approval to the Draft Master Plan 2021, then even private schools in the Capital would be allowed to function in double shifts, like their government counterparts. Schools will also be allowed to run coaching centres from their premises after school hours.

If the Centre gives approval to the Draft Master Plan (MPD) 2021, then even private schools in the Capital would be allowed to function in double shifts, like their government counterparts.

Not only this, schools will also be allowed to run coaching centres from their premises after school hours and after seeking necessary clearances from the Delhi government’s education department.

The five-member Board of Inquiry formed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to consider the objections and suggestions to MPD 2021 on Tuesday decided to incorporate these provisions in the final Master Plan 2021 before sending for approval.

“Double shifts will help private schools accommodate more students. This will also open up more avenues for children,” said a DDA official. But schools have to seek necessary clearances from the education department.”

The Board has also decided that primary schools should come up on 400 square metre land instead of the existing 2000 square metre. Also, the plots for secondary schools should be on two acre land instead of the existing 1.5 acre.
