About 2,500 Class X students whose Science and Technology answersheets were gutted on Thursday will have the option of appearing in a retest to be held by CBSE on April 8, or choose to accept marks proportionate to their three best papers.

The re-examination will be held at the centres designated to the students for their Board exams. About 2,500 answersheets were burnt in a fire that broke out at the Ludlow Castle Sarvodaya Vidyalaya on Shamnath Marg on Thursday morning. “The students will have a choice in the matter.

They can sit for the re-exam in which case we will calculate the average of their three best papers, and award whichever marks are higher,” said a CBSE official. For instance, if a child scores 60 in the science and technology paper, but her average score in her three best subjects is higher, she will receive the higher score. Others can simply choose to accept the average of their three best papers as their marks, the official explained.

The decision was taken by the CBSE examination committee that met on Sunday afternoon to decide the matter. According to CBSE sources, students from various parts of the city have been affected.
