The tankers exploded and Kumar’s body was charred. Iron pieces of the tanker hit three women working around 150 metres away. One of the injured, a 50-year-old woman, later died.

The police said gases had developed inside the tank and it exploded.

“The injured women were rushed to MMG hospital where one of them died,” said SS Yadav (SP).

The police have registered an FIR under Sections 279, 338, 304, IPC, against Sohan Lal, Rahisu, Usman and two others at the Sihani-Gate police station. These people were reportedly running the scrap business and had procured four tanks some time ago.

“We are trying to identify the source from where these tanks were procured. Teams have been sent to raid the hideouts of the accused,” the SP added.
