The water tank, with a capacity of six lakh litre, was constructed nearly six months ago to store water for the fire tenders.
However, it still awaits proper water supply. In the present scenario, firefighters are forced to get groundwater by submersible pumps.
The Sector-37 fire station — which cover the industrial area in Gurgaon and Manesar area — have received 72 fire calls in the last two months this year.
“Even though several months have passed, the fire station is still waiting for proper water supply for the tank. We’ve informed our higher officials but no action has been taken by the agency concerned,” said a senior fire official on the condition of anonymity.
“The department had earlier asked Huda to provide water supply, but no action has been taken,” he added.
“The fire station is well equipped to deal with any emergency situation. We are in touch with the authority concerned,” said MS Bhardwaj, assistant regional fire officer.
“The station should have proper water supply. It takes a lot of time to fill the water tanker with submersible pumps. The response time is very crucial and it should be within five minutes. This will decrease the casualty count and damage to property,” said the fire official.
Meanwhile, Huda administrator Praveen Kumar said they will sort out the problem soon.
“We will provide proper water supply for the tanker soon. I will personally look into the matter,” he added.
HT has consistently reported on how the lack of infrastructure, equipment like hydraulic platforms and staff crunch is plaguing the fire department.
