A territorial army personnel allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mohammad Fareed allegedly fired five rounds from his service weapon at his unit in Palma area of the district on the intervening night of April 4 and 5, they said, adding the jawan died on the spot.

Other jawans woke up on hearing the sound of bullets, believing that it might be a terrorist attack.

However, they found their own colleague in a pool of blood on the floor and informed the senior officers about the incident, they said.

Police rushed to the spot on Wednesday and registered a case under relevant sections of law.
