Official sources said eight companies of central para-military forces which had been despatched to tackle the present situation in the state were deployed at various strategic points in the valley in addition to existing forces.
They said efforts would be made to protect lives and properties during Independence Day celebrations on Saturday and in the ongoing intensified agitation for lifting of the act from entire Manipur.
The 32 organisations spearheading the current stir had earlier announced that it would intensify its agitation for removal of the act from whole of Manipur and there was now no question of backing out.
