Selected candidates still wait for jobs

As far as the recruitment of clerical staff is concerned the time appears to have stopped for the State Excise Department. For the past nearly 10 years the appointment of 22 applicants is hanging fire.

Sometimes it is because of the fear of the High Court and at times of the department itself which sends shivers down their spine. Imagine the mental state of these 22 people struggling to get a job for the past so many years even after being selected, said an official of the department.
The trauma of these 22 candidates began way back in August 1997 when the department started the process of recruitment. While the interview process was reportedly on the BJP took the reins of power in the state. Ensconced in the chair the BJP Government decided to stop the interview process giving enough reasons to some of the candidates to knock at the doors of the High Court. As a result, the court ordered that the the results be declared following interview.
Incidentally four of the applicants who had filed the writ petition in the High Court could not be selected. Consequently, they rushed to the court with the plea that there were certain technical snags in the process of recruitment.
Finding their plea genuine the court this time cancelled the interview which had already taken place and ordered fresh interview. In line with the court's order the department after correcting itself again carried out the interview process in the month of April this year and declared the results.
However, the selected candidates have still not been allowed to join by the department which feels that the police verification and medical examination of the selected candidates was a must. On their part these 22 selected candidates are finding themselves in another catch 22 situation.
For among them many have cleared the process twice and the agony and the ecstasy they underwent through the previous two processes were still fresh in their minds. For the time being, the saying, there's a slip between the cup and the lip was giving them the sleepless nights.
