Seminar on regional disparities on May 20-21

A TWO-DAY national seminar on "regional disparities in levels of development in Uttar Pradesh" will be organised by the Department of Geography, Allahabad University (AU) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Association of Geographers at 10.30 am at the North Hall on May 20 & 21.

A TWO-DAY national seminar on "regional disparities in levels of development in Uttar Pradesh" will be organised by the Department of Geography, Allahabad University (AU) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Association of Geographers at 10.30 am at the North Hall on May 20 & 21.

AU Vice-Chancellor Prof RG Harshe will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony while former Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor and internationally recognised authority in geography Prof RP Misra will be the chairman of the inaugural session. AU's Head of Geography Department, Prof HN Mishra is the convenor of the seminar.

Several eminent geographers from different parts of the country will attend the seminar including Prof B Thakur, Prof SM Rashid and Prof RB Singh from Delhi School of Economics, Prof PS Tiwari from Madras, Prof Hira Lal from Lucknow, Prof JN Pandey & Prof SS Verma from Gorakhpur, Prof Sarla Sharma from Raipur, Prof AK Tiwari from Jodhpur and Prof RB Singh from Varanasi.

Altogether 125 delegates will be deliberating on issue of regional disparities in Uttar Pradesh.

The regional disparity in development is a global issue. However, it is much more pronounced in India.

The seminar especially focuses on Uttar Pradesh as with a total population of 166 million on an area of 2.38 lakh square kilometres the State represents a mini-India.


The objective of the seminar is to map the trajectory of this development and suggest sustainable development model for the State.
