Seminar to discuss role of local bodies

A TWO-DAY national seminar will be organised by the Department of Political Science, Allahabad University on Thursday. Head of the Political Science Department Prof MP Dubey said in this seminar, research papers would be presented by the professors of various universities across the country.

A TWO-DAY national seminar will be organised by the Department of Political Science, Allahabad University on Thursday. Head of the Political Science Department Prof MP Dubey said in this seminar, research papers would be presented by the professors of various universities across the country.

Organising secretary and Reader of Political Science Department AU, Dr HK Sharma informed that Prof PD Sharma of Kurushetra University, Prof CB Barthwal of Lucknow University, Prof Alok and Prof Sachin of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi and Prof BM Sharma of Rajasthan University would participate in the seminar. Besides these scholars, former vice-chancellor of Kumaon University and present member of Uttaranchal Finance Commission Prof BK Joshi would also attend the seminar for detailed discussions on financial aspects related to the working of the local self-government in India.

Mayor of Allahabad Dr KP Srivastva would express his views on practical obstacles hindering the smooth functioning of the municipal corporation, Dr Sharma said, adding that AU vice- chancellor Prof. RG Harshe would speak on the importance of the 74th Amendment related to urban local self -government.

Justice Giridhar Malviya and Additional Advocate General (AAG) of Uttaranchal CB Pandey would suggest various measures to further strengthen the local bodies.

Various national and local participants would carry out discussions on the role of urban local self-government in the era of globalisation, liberalisation and privatization, he said.

Dr Sharma said that Dr KP Srivastva would be the guest of honour at the inaugural session while Prof BK Joshi would be the key speaker. Prof Harshe would preside over the inaugural session, Justice Malviya would be the chief guest and CB Pandey would deliver the valedictory note.

Meanwhile, Prof Dubey informed that Prof RKM Tripathi from Gorakhpur University would deliver the first AB Lal memorial lecture on the topic, ‘Revisiting Hegel: Influence of Hegel on Contemporary Political Philosophy’ at 1 pm .
