Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has said that the Congress' policy of appeasing Muslims led to the defeat of the Shiv Sena and the Bhartiya Janata Party in the Chimur and Daryapur bypolls.

Thackeray refused to give Narayan Rane the credit for the Congress' win in these two seats — Rane loyalists and former Sainiks, Prakash Bharsakhle and Vijay Wadettiwar, now with the Congress, won these seats.

In the Sunday edition of his party's mouthpiece, Saamana, Thackeray said that both these seats were with the Sena for 16 years and that his party will emerge strong again "just like the rising sun".
