Senior held for raping 21-yr-old
A 64-year-old businessman dealing in paints was arrested on Wednesday for raping a young woman, who had asked him for money for her treatment.
He was remanded in police custody till Monday.
A complaint was registered by the 21-year-old woman against Ramesh Seth, which stated she was raped in a bungalow in Gorai on Tuesday.
The police said the woman and her mother had got in touch with Seth through some contact as they were seeking financial aid of over Rs 3 lakh for the woman’s treatment.
Seth, a Kandivli resident, assured the two that he has a lot of contacts with NGOs, which offer such assistance, the police said.
Seth is a widower and stays with his grown-up children. On Tuesday, Seth allegedly called up the victim at her Virar residence and asked her to meet near Kandivli station. He reportedly told her mother that only the patient can come along with him. “The accused took her to a bungalow in Gorai and offered her a spiked drink,” said Senior Inspector Surendra Jaiswal.
“He then put a hand over my mouth and raped me,” the woman said.
Seth reportedly dumped her in a train and she kept going to and fro between Churchgate and Borivli. After regaining consciousness, she called up her mother and a case was lodged. The victim is a college dropout, said the police.
